2019 ICSC RECon Asia – Pacific was held in Singapore this
year from October 22 to October 23. During which time, the 2019 ICSC Asia-Pacific
Shopping Centre Awards were announced. SM China wins for the fourth time,
continuing the success since 2016, 2017 and 2018. This time, SM China was
presented “2019 ICSC Asia Pacific Shopping Center Silver Award for
Marketing Excellence –Cause Related” for its long-term project SM Children’s
Happy Home, stressing again its influence on fulfilling corporate social
responsibilities and recognition from the industry and communities.

ICSC Asia-Pacific Shopping
Center Awards recognizes great performance and innovations of shopping centers
in cause-related marketing, public relations, positioning and brand awareness, emerging/digital
technology, ect.

Early as
1983, SM Group has set up SM Foundation to systemize its management on better
fulfilling corporate responsibilities. Year 2004, SM Cares were established for people and the
community, environmental sustainability, disaster resilience and green
campaigns. In 2018, SM China has officially launched SM Children’s Happy Home,
at least 2 projects would be set up annually, it is planned to have at least 10
projects within 5 years. Just this October 11, the third SM Children’s Happy
Home was launched in Xihe town, Zichuan District, Zibo City, Shandong Province.
The first 2 projects were located in Sichuan and Fujian province separately and
the fourth one will be located in Chongqing City.
The left-behind Children in SM Children’s Happy Home
The CCTF (China Children and Teenagers'
Foundation) and ACWF (All-China Women's Federation) joined hands with SM China
to establish Children’s Happy Home in areas where left-behind children live.
The projects are all equipped with books, amusement places and facilities for
them, as well as the education, psychological consultation and other services.
Left-behind children could communicate with their parents in the happy homes
via video calls and accompanied by SM employees or volunteers to have
activities, trainings on self-defense, etc. Donation projects are also set up
in all SM China Malls to collect donations from communities. The dedication of
SM China has impressed much the industry, society as well as the judges of ICSC
to present the award.
Other than
SM Children’s Happy Home, #AweSM: SM Celebrates 60 from SM Philippines was
recognized the 2019 Silver Award for Marketing Excellence – Public Relations
and Event; 8 programs were also made into the finalists like SM China Little
Free Library, Path to heal yourself @ SM Lifestyle Center, #VoteForMom, #Self-Love
Campaign, etc.
On the ICSC Asia-Pacific RECon held on
October 23, Mr. Steven T. Tan shared his professional thoughts on Edifice
Complex(ity): The New Breed of Retail Real Estate Professional. He pointed it
out that shopping malls are now facing challenges on operations, leasing and
marketing for shopping malls gathers all kinds of consumptions such as dinning,
entertaining, health, residency, etc., we need to break the mindset and
innovate in all aspects. Given the abundant experience of SM in operating
shopping malls for over 30 years, Mr. Steven stressed the importance of
building a managing team which is good at learning.
